The Background Story


At the end of January this year, we found 3 newborn puppies discarded in a ditch at the bottom of a volcano. They were damp, shivering, crying, and starving (trying to suckle desperately on our fingers), and they were too young to even open their eyes or hear - so obviously we scooped them up (after discovering there was no mum nearby). It was difficult to find care for them because a) they needed mumma milk and 24 hour care, and b) the Bali animal rescues are full!

The 3 babies are now in the care of a generous local Balinese woman. She has her own children and she's pregnant, yet she still volunteered to feed them every two hours (including throughout the night). We discovered she had many many animals in her care, and it all comes out of her own pocket. Our three puppies are soon due for their vaccines, and eventually their neutering/spaying, and we want to make sure it's paid for. Almost every day she finds dogs who need help, included way too many infant dogs that would die quickly without care. 

With this discovery, however, we realized that there are many dogs in desperate need of care in Bali and not enough people or money to save them. BARC Bali Dogs rescue was very helpful to us in getting these puppies cared for and we want to help them, even just a little bit, with the hundreds of dogs they have. Generous hearts deserve some help.

BARC is a shelter providing vaccination, sterilization and other necessary medical assistance to all rescued animals. They operate a street sterilization program to help stop the relentless flow of unwanted puppies. Additionally they conduct education programs in the Balinese community.
BARC runs a basic clinic in central  Ubud where the non emergency cases can be treated and receive care; they also have an adoption centre and retail outlet. 
BARC is in the process of creating Bali’s 1st multi species sanctuary known as ‘Warrior’s Legacy’ in Tabanan, Bali. They currently have 60 adult dogs, 2 rescue horses and 2 rescued pigs. They have just completed construction of a state- of the art all natural, open air jungle monkey enclosure for our rescued monkeys.
​ 100% of all donations go towards improving the lives of Bali Animals.
Ni Made Putri Susani is a veterinary assistant who was previously working at Sunset Veterinary Clinic in Ubud, Bali. She is currently on maternity leave. We met Ni Made the day we found the 3 tiny puppies we'd found wrapped up in a sweater, going around town trying to find help for them. BARC recommended we contact her as she's wonderful with keeping infant puppies alive and taking care of them
She currently is caring for numerous puppies, dogs, and cats, and she does this all while pregnant and with children. She's our doggy hero. The money we donate to her from this fundraiser will go directly to saving the lives and keeping up the health of the animals she's caring for.
